Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded on January 13, 1913 at Howard University in Washington D.C., by 22 vibrant college women with a zest for education, service to their community, women’s rights, and a religious enrichment.  Through their dedication to becoming servants of the world and to their communities, a certificate of incorporation was granted on February 13, 1913, and was born Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.

After becoming knowledgeable of what Delta had to offer minority women, 29 college students came together at East Texas State University, now A&M University-Commerce.  With the help of faculty, staff, and friends, the “Divine Twenty-Nine” chartered the Theta Nu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on May 10, 1971.
