What is Infinity Institute? A summer camp taught by university professors for students to learn more about math and science.
Who can come to the camp? Students who are currently in the 9th – 11th grades can apply and 26 students will be selected based on several criteria.
When is the camp? The camp begins on Sunday, June 8 with check in to the dorm from 2 – 4 PM. Then a reception for all students and parents to meet the professors and camp personnel from 4- 6 PM. Students will be able to check out on Fridays at 6 PM to go home. Then return each Sunday afternoon at 4 PM. The last day of camp is Wednesday, July 3, 2008.
How will students be selected? Students will be selected based on the following criteria: essay – showing interest in the camp; GPA and test scores – to show ability to be successful at camp; list of activities and awards – to show student’s participation and interest areas; 2 letters of recommendation – to confirm student’s ability and desire to participate, family information – to help select students who can truly benefit from this pre-college experience.
How much will it cost? The camp is free to all 26 students who are selected.
What is the monetary reward? Each student will receive $1200 for participating in the camp after the camp ends. This will allow students to participate who might otherwise need to have a summer job.
What type of supervision will there be? There will be a camp staff member with the students at all times. There will be a ratio of 1 staff member per every 5 students. The students will eat all meals together and go to each activity together with supervision. Each night, they will be supervised in the dorms and monitored for lights out. Girls and boys will be in separate areas and will have a staff member of the same sex on their floor. Students are required to go to breakfast with the group each morning and attend all activities and meals.
What type of schedule will there be? The students will be involved in classes each morning and labs in the afternoon. The evenings will have a variety of activities including going to the recreation center, team building activities and having structured study time with tutors.
Can I drive my car? Yes to camp – but once a student has checked in to the camp, the student will not be allowed to drive until Friday evening at check out.
What is the benefit to attending this camp? An awesome experience! A chance to be challenged in the math and science areas. A chance to receive a college scholarship in the areas of math and science. An opportunity to be around other students who are interested in math and science. A chance to work with outstanding professors at TAMU-Commerce.
How can I get to come? Send in your completed application by JANUARY 31st. Be sure to review the application checklist on page 4 of the application and don’t leave anything out.
