American Scientist is the high-quality bimonthly publication of Sigma Xi. Articles describe recent advances or discoveries in a wide range of scientific fields, and are written by the scientists and engineers who made them.
American Scientist has received many awards over the years. Samples: the cover for the May-June 1993 issue received a Certificate of Design Excellence by a jury selected by Print Magazine. The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC selected an illustration from American Scientist for use in an exhibition, "Ocean Planet". American Scientist received a Silver Award in the Society of National Association of Publications 1995 Excel Awards competition for the magazine feature article "The Predatory Behaviour of the White Shark". Four illustrations from American Scientist were chosen to be included in an international collection of the best in scientific illustrations (to be published by PIE books of Tokyo). The list goes on.
All member of Sigma Xi automatically receive a subscription to American Scientist. It can also be obtained by subscription (currently $28/year), and is available in some bookstores ($3.95/issue). (It is available at Hastings in Greenville, and is available at Border's Books in Dallas.)
