Here are some pictures from our 2002 Christmas Parade held in conjunction with the City of Commerce Animal Shelter. The theme of the parade was a Disney™ Christmas, but of course we put our own twist on the theme, shifting towards animal adoption and promoting spaying and neutering of pets to control our never ending overflow of strays. A special thanks to Gaylon Steel, our Animal Control Officer.

It sure was nice the day before we began to put together our modest float, but this day, the day of the parade, it was the coldest it had been all year. To add to the cold, the wind was steadily blowing and occasionally gusting out of the north. You can see in the lower right hand corner our four legged helper "Pepper" who was adopted from the shelter as a puppy.

This is an inside shot of the fragile Commerce Animal Shelter. We are trying to gather all of the excited animals and load them onto the trailer. The Commerce City Council is diligently working on providing the citizens, and their pets, with a new facility. We hope to have a groundbreaking ceremony soon!

An unexpected guest from the Chemistry, Biological and Earth Sciences Department. Dr. Lance Whaley decided to stop by the float with his family and take a few snapshots and to check-in on a few of his students to see how they are doing.

Sorry for such a dark picture. This should be a shot of the trailer with all of the Christmas lights on, and the members holding their pets.

One of the kittens getting a scratch from Toni. You can see the felt ears sewn onto her Santa hat to blend into the parade theme. (Kudos to Lisa and Rebecca for the hat work).

This lab mix was appropriately named "Two Socks" for her two white front paws and all black body. She was adopted thanks to the efforts of the parade.
