Guardian Angel

Last evening, mother,
During some quiet hours of [heartbreak and] contemplation,
I recalled how, when I was a child, you always told me
You often prayed to my guardian angel,
And that he must be very busy with me.

Today, mother, being [amazed at having lived to] twenty-three,
I regret never having thanked you [thank you!].
Don't worry,
Nothing [out of the ordinary] has happened, and
I am [hopefully going to be] fine.
