Dreamers
Alexandra Corinth
Dreamers falter
Reality slips away into
Easily forgotten memories
Stars begin whispering
Sweet nothings
To the moon
Bracelets melt onto wrists
Tattoos on pale skin
Poetry falls from the sky
Like rain
From the clouded minds
Of writers
Strung out on angst
Sunlight pierces through nimbus
Rainbows of inspiration
That become the clothes they wear
And the colors of their hair
Fairies with glistening smiles
And shimmering, translucent wings
Strum harps and sing in shrill voices
That are somehow whimsical despite
The irritating sound they make
Girls with braided hair
Dance in the shadows
Waiting for the boys to come out and play
Daughters hold hands with mothers
As drifting fathers fade away
Reverie continues
But the time has come to awaken
So the dreamers stumble
Back to the world in consciousness.
