Constitution
The Zeta Epsilon Chapter Constitution
ARTICLE I –
IDENTIFICATION
The name of this
organization shall be the Zeta Epsilon Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi. It
shall be located in the College of Business & Technology, Texas A&M
University-Commerce.
ARTICLE II –
PURPOSE
The purposes of
this Chapter shall be to:
a. Encourage
the study of accounting, finance, and management information
systems;
b.
Develop awareness
and knowledge of related professional fields;
c. Honor
outstanding academic achievement by members;
d.
Foster high
professional and personal standards among members; and
e. Promote
the welfare of the College of Business & Technology.
ARTICLE III –
MEMBERSHIP
Section 1.
The members of the Chapter shall be those students, faculty, and
other persons who shall meet the membership requirements in the
Chapter Bylaws and who shall be initiated according to the official
ritual.
Section 2.
No person shall
be discriminated against becoming a member because of race, color,
sex, age, religion, disability, national origin, or veteran status.
Section 3.
There shall be six categories of membership: 1) Student, 2) Faculty,
3) Alumnus, 4) Honorary, 5) International Candidate, and 6)
Candidate. The Chapter Bylaws shall explain each category and its
corresponding requirements.
Section 4.
All members must remain in good standing or follow steps to
return to good standing as required by the Chapter
Bylaws. Membership may be lost by resignation or expulsion as shall
be specified in the Chapter Bylaws.
Section 5.
Only student and faculty members in good standing shall be
entitled to vote or to hold office.
Section 6.
Student membership certificates shall be held by the Faculty
Advisor and shall be presented only to student members in good
standing the semester in which they graduate.
ARTICLE IV –
GOVERNANCE
Section 1.
The officers of the Chapter shall be: President; Vice-President for
Internal Affairs; Vice-President for External Affairs;
Vice-President for Technology; Faculty Advisor; Secretary; and
Treasurer. All offices shall be held by student members, except that
of Faculty Advisor, which shall be held by a faculty member. The
Chapter Bylaws shall specify the duties of each Chapter officer.
Section 2.
All regular and interim Chapter officers shall be elected and
installed following the procedures detailed in the Chapter Bylaws.
Section 3.
The terms of all student offices shall be one year, and shall run
from June 1 through May 31. The term of the Faculty Advisor office
shall be three years, and shall also run from June 1 through May 31.
Section 4.
There shall be an Executive Committee composed of the Chapter
officers and chaired by the President. This committee shall have
power to act in all matters except revision of the Chapter
Constitution or Bylaws; initiation, suspension, or expulsion of
members; and election or removal of officers. All actions taken by
the Executive Committee shall be reported to the members at the next
regular meeting.
Section 5.
Chapter members shall have the power to remove an officer for
continued absence or failure to perform the duties of his/her
office. Removal of an officer may be recommended by the Executive
Committee, a petition from members, or by the Faculty Advisor. Final
approval must be passed by a two-thirds majority vote of the members
present at a regular or special meeting.
Section 6.
The fiscal year of the Chapter shall be from May 1st through April
30th of the following year.
ARTICLE V –
AMENDMENTS
Amendment 1. Each
recognized student organization shall budget and be fiscally
responsible in a fair and equitable way to its current and future
members. All financial expenditures by the organization are
required to have two signatures from organization representatives on
them (the organization treasurer, president, and advisor.)
Amendment 2. The organization may not, with or
without the consent of the student, include hazing as one of its
activities. “Hazing” refers to any intentional, knowing, or
reckless act, occurring on or off the campus of an educational
institution by one person alone or acting with other, directed
against a student, that endangers the mental or physical health or
safety of a student for the purpose of pledging, being initiated
into, affiliated with, holding office in, or maintaining membership
in any organization whose members are or include students at an
educational institution (Senate Bill 24. Section 4.01-4.50.)
Amendment 3. The
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal
anti-discrimination statute that provides comprehensive civil rights
protection for persons with disabilities. Among other things, this
legislation requires that all students with disabilities be
guaranteed a learning environment that provides for reasonable
accommodation of their disabilities. If you have a disability
requiring an accommodation please contact the Office of Student
Disability Resources and Services.
The Executive
Committee or student members may propose amendments to the Chapter
Constitution or Bylaws. All amendments must be distributed to
members at least one week prior to voting on the amendments. The
Chapter Constitution or Bylaws may only be amended by a two-thirds
majority vote of the members present at a regular meeting.
ARTICLE VI –
RATIFICATION
This Constitution
of the Zeta Epsilon Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi has been approved by a
two-thirds majority vote of the members present at the regular
meeting on September 2, 2008.
