The American Studies Association of Texas is the Texas regional affiliate of the national American Studies Association. It is dedicated to the study of and promotion of all areas of American studies. It holds yearly conferences, publishes a journal (JASAT, Journal of the American Studies Association of Texas), and supports all aspects of American studies in the State of Texas. However, its membership is not limited to people residing in or near Texas. It draws members from all over the United States. It celebrated its fiftieth anniversary at its 2006 Conference in Waco.

Invitation for Submissions
The Journal of the American Studies Association of Texas (JASAT) is a peer-reviewed journal published annually in November by the American Studies Association of Texas. The purpose of JASAT is to focus interdisciplinary attention on the most important thematic, methodological, and pedagogical issues in American culture. JASAT welcomes manuscripts 15-25 pages in length on various aspects of American culture--e.g., history, literature, popular culture, critical theory, technology, race and ethnicity, and the arts--preferably with an emphasis on Texas, the South or Southwest. Manuscripts must be sent as an e-mail attachment in Word format. All manuscripts should conform to MLA style and should be submitted to Douglas Ferdon, Department of Journalism, Baylor University, Waco, TX 76798, email: Doug_Ferdon@baylor.edu

General guidelines are as follows:
Length: Approximately 350 words.
Due date: No later than Apr. 1, 2012. Early submissions appreciated!
Format: Electronic, either as an attachment or pasted into the body of an email is preferred; send it to the book review editor. If you must send it in hardcopy, please mail it to the book review editor. A sample review is enclosed for reference.
1.Format for bibliographic heading:
DeKoven, Marianne. Utopia Limited: The Sixties and the Emergence of the Postmodern.Durham: Duke UP, 2004. 363 pages. $23.95 paper. ISBN 9-8233-3269-8.
2. Please keep to the word limit. If you find it necessary to exceed the limit, please contact one of us. (And please be aware that we may have to do some cutting!)
3, Complete the review by the assigned deadline. Let one of us know asap if there's a problem.
4. Include a brief summary of the scope, purpose, and content of the book. Also include an evaluation of the author's success in achieving the purpose, his/her use of available resources, and the organization and presentation of the material. Use inclusive language. Reviews should generally be one part introduction to the book, the author, the topic, and the method; one part analysis and evaluation; and one part discussion of the book's contribution to American Studies.
5. Evaluation may, of course, be favorable or unfavorable; but the review should in all cases avoid personalities and should express criticism with civility.
6. Please stick to discussion of the book and avoid irrelevant digressions.
7. Don't list typographical or other minor errors unless they significantly impair the value of the book.
8. Include page numbers in parentheses for quotations.
9. At the end of the review, type your name flush left in all caps. Directly beneath your name, type your institutional affiliation flush left. (If you have no institutional affiliation, type "Independent scholar" and location.)
